Rule Detection Questions and Examples

In the problems related to rule detection, we are given a rule along with four sets of figures. One is then required to select a set of figures which obeys the given rule. The following examples will clarify.

Example 1: Which of the following set of figures follows the given rule?
Rule: Closed figure becomes more and more open.

Solution: A close observation of the sets of figures reveals that in set of figures (D), a closed figure, a square divided into four parts, tend to become open in each step. Hence (D) is the answer.

Example 2: Which of the following set of figures follows the given rule?
Rule: Closed figures become more and more open and the open figures become more and more closed.

Solution: A close observation of the four sets of figures shows that sets of figures in (B), (C) and (D) do not follow the given rule. As a matter of fact, these figures do not follow any sequence. However, in set of figures (A), we have a triangle enclosing a open curved figure. In the subsequent figures, the closed triangle becomes more and more open while the open curved figure gradually changes into a closed circle. Hence (A) is the answers.
