The Reserve Bank of India is India's central banking institution which controls the issuance and supply of the Indian rupee. It commenced its operations on 1 April 1935 in accordance with the Reserve bank of India Act, 1934. The RBI plays an important part in the Development Strategy of the Governmemt of India. In the RBI, 21 members are appointed for the general superintendence and direction of the RBI: First is the Governor (The main head of the RBI), 4 deputy governors, 2 finance ministry representatives, The Govt also nominate the 10 directors and 4 directors appointed at the RBI regional headquarters at Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and the capital New Delhi.
