SSC Junior Translator Syllabus and Eligibility Criteria

The SSC Junior Translator Examination will consist of two parts.

Written Examination carrying 400 marks
Personality Test/Interview carrying 100 marks

PART-I:
Written Examination:The Written Examination will consist of
two papers Paper - I and paper II.

Paper - I : It will consist of objective Type Multiple choice
questions only. There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I. Candidates are, therefore, advised to keep this in mind while answering the questions

Paper-II:
Translation and Essay: 200 Marks (Conventional Type)
The paper will contain two passages for translation - one passage for translation from Hindi to English and one pass age for translation from English to Hindi, and an Essay each in Hindi and English, to test
the candidates’ translation skills and their ability to write as well as comprehend the two languages correctly, precisely and effectively.

The SSC Junior Translator Syllabus Part II Interview/personality test - Marks 100

The interview/personality test is structured in such a manner that the candidates’ interests, knowledge, various traits, aptitude, suitability etc. are probed among other things, through academic qualifications, experience, extra - curricular activities, general awareness/knowledge, depth of knowledge of the subjects studied (10+2 onwards), communicative skills and over - all personality etc.

Candidates called for interview/personality test have the option to converse either in Hindi or English language during the interview process.

1. All the candidates have to appear in both the papers mentioned above.

2. Answer Scripts for Paper II will be evaluated of only those candidates who attain a minimum qualifying standard in Paper - I as may be fixed by the Commission at its discretion.

3. Only those who secure the minimum qualifying marks in Paper-I or part thereof and Paper-II of the written examination will be shortlisted for the interview. Personality test will be conducted for 100 mraks. The Commission may at its discretion prescribe separate cut off in interview.

Candidates will be finally recommended for appointment by the Commission on the basis of their aggregate marks in the written examination and interview.

Note: Success in the examination confers no right of appointment unless government are satisfied after such enquiry as may be considered necessary that the candidate is suitable in all respects of appointment to the service/post.

SSC Junior Translator Eligibility Criteria

Candidates, intending to apply for SSC Junior Translator Eligibility Criteria should ensure that they fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria specified by SSC - Staff Selection Commission

Nationality / Citizenship

  • Citizen of India or
  • Subject of Nepal or
  • Subject of Bhutan or
  • Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or
  • Person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the SSC CHSL Examination but the offer of appointment will be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India.

SSC junior translator Age Limit.

Candidates age limit should not exceed 30 years

Note: Candidate should note that Date of Birth as recorded in the Matriculation / Secondary Examination Certificate or an equivalent certificate available on the date of submission of application will only be accepted by the Staff Selection Commission for determining the Age- eligibility and no subsequent request for its change will be considered or granted .

SSC Junior Translator Educational Qualifications

Essential:
Master’s Degree of a recognized University or equivalent in Hindi or English with English or Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject or as a medium of examination at degree level

OR

Master’s Degree of a recognized University or equivalent in any subject other than Hindi or English with Hindi or English medium and English or Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject or as a medium of examination at degree level

OR

Master’s Degree of a recognized University or equivalent in any subject other than Hindi or English with Hindi and English as a compulsory or elective subject or either of the two as medium of examination and the other as a compulsory or elective subject at degree level;

and

Recognized Diploma or certificate Course in Translation from Hindi to English and vice-versa or Two years experience of translation work from Hindi to English and vice-versa in Central or State Government Offices including Government of India Undertakings.

Desirable:
Knowledge at the level of Matriculation of a recognized Board or equivalent of one of the languages other than Hindi mentioned in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

Degree or Diploma in translation from Hindi to English and vice-versa from a recognized University.

Note: As per Ministry of Human Resource Development Notification No. 44 dated 01-03-1995 published in Gazette of India edition dated 08-04-1995, the Degree obtained through open Universities/ Distance Education Mode needs to be recognized by Distance Education Council, IGNOU. Accordingly, unless such Degrees had been recognized for the period when the candidates acquired the relevant qualification, they will not be accepted for the purpose of Educational Qualification.

Candidates who have not acquired but will acquire the educational qualification and acquire documentary evidence from the Board/University in support will also be eligible.

Relaxation of Upper age limit

  • Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe : 5 years Age relaxation
  • Other Backward Classes : 3 years Age relaxation
  • Physical Handicap : 10 years Age relaxation
  • Physical Handicap + OBC : 13 years Age relaxation
  • Physical Handicap + SC/ST : 15 years Age relaxation
  • Ex-Servicemen (Unreserved/General): 03 years after deduction of the military service rendered from the actual age as on the Closing date for receipt of application
  • Ex-Servicemen (OBC) : 06 years (3 years + 3 years) after deduction of the military service rendered from the actual age as on the Closing date for receipt of application.
  • Ex-Servicemen (SC & ST) : 08 years (3 years + 5 years) after deduction of the military service rendered from the actual age as on the Closing date for receipt of application
  • Central Govt. Civilian Employees (General/Unreserved) who have rendered not less than 3 years regular and continuous service as on closing date for receipt of application : 5 years
  • Central Govt. Civilian Employees (OBC)) who have rendered not less than 3 years regular and continuous service as on closing date for receipt of application : 8 (5 +3) years
  • Central Govt. Civilian Employees (SC/ST) who have rendered not less than 3 years regular and continuous service as on closing date for receipt of application :10 (5+5) years
  • Central Govt. Civilian Employees (General/Unreserved) who have rendered not less than 3 years regular and continuous service as on closing date for receipt of application : Upto 40 years of age
  • Central Govt. Civilian Employees (OBC)) who have rendered not less than 3 years regular and continuous service as on closing date for receipt of application : Upto 43 years of age
  • Central Govt. Civilian Employees (SC/ST) who have rendered not less than 3 years regular and continuous service as on closing date for receipt of application: Upto 45 years of age
  • Candidates who had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir (Unreserved/General) : 5 years
  • Candidates who had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir (OBC) : 8 years
  • Candidates who had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir ( SC/ST) : 10 years
  • Widows/Divorced Women/Women judicially separated and who are not remarried (Unreserved/General) : Upto 35 years of age
  • Widows/Divorced Women/Women judicially separated and who are not remarried (OBC) : Upto 38 years of age
  • Widows/Divorced Women/Women judicially separated and who are not remarried (SC/ST) : Upto 40 years of age
  • Defense Personnel disabled in operation during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof. Unreserved/General: 5 years
  • Defense Personnel disabled in operation during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof. ( OBC) : 8 (5+3) years
  • Defense Personnel disabled in operation during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof ( SC/ST) : 10 (5+5) years

Candidates who wish to be considered against vacancies reserved or seek age - relaxation must submit requisite certificate from the competent authority issued on or before the prescribed date, in the prescribed format whenever such certificates are sought by the Regional/Sub - Regional Office. Otherwise, their claim for SC/ST/OBC/PH/ExS status will not be entertained and their candidature/applications will be considered under
General (UR) category.
