Notification of ASRB Recruitment 2017 - Vacancies for 52 Senior Scientist Posts: Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB), New Delhi invites application from Indian Citizens for direct selection to fill the vacancies of 52 Senior Scientist Posts in various departments. These positions are to be filled up on permanent basis.

The board is looking for research Scientists in the field of Agricultural Biotechnology, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Entomology. The Biotechnology is being used in many ways in agriculture. The Scientists in the Agricultural Biotechnology field will work to supply farmers with tools to increase the yield of plant and animal products, while lowering the costs of production. They will be working in the department to include production of plants such as orchids for ornamental purposes and plants that can be used for fuel production (biofuels). To accomplish these goals, biotechnologists develop products to protect animals and crops from disease and help farmers identify the best animals and seeds to use in selective breeding programs. The Agricultural Economics department is a social science programme that focuses on economic methods and tools which equip Scientists to solve problems. Their profile will be to assess agribusiness economics, international economics and development economics issues and decision-making processes. They can work with legislation and relevant institutions, and are able to analyse interdisciplinary topics from an economic angle. At the same time, they are also able to communicate academic issues and solutions to peers and the public. They acquire in-depth knowledge about the economic policy landscape. In addition, they are provided with the necessary tools to analyse and advise on international economics and development and/or industrial economics from a food policy perspective. The Agricultural Engineers are known as biological and agricultural engineers—work on a variety of activities. These activities range from aquaculture (raising food, such as fish, that thrive in water) to land farming to forestry; from developing biofuels to improving conservation; from planning animal environments to finding better ways to process food. Their job inludes to design agricultural machinery components and equipment, using computer-aided design (CAD) technology, to test agricultural machinery and equipment to ensure that they perform adequately, to design food-processing plants and supervise manufacturing operations, to plan and direct construction of rural electric-power distribution systems and to provide advice on water quality and issues related to managing pollution, controlling rivers, and protecting and using other water resources. An Agricultural Entomologist, you study insects. Their job asks them to use Science to identify, classify, and study insects and their relationships to plants and animal life. Their research plays a huge role in understanding ecosystems: how they function, how they are changing, and how best to protect them. They also play a large role in industries such as agriculture and forestry, and in managing insect populations to protect public health. They investigate and evaluate the situation carefully before making any decisions as to the best way to address the infestation and slow or stop the spread of this insect.

The Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB) was established on 1 November 1973 as an independent recruitment agency in pursuance of the recommendations of the Gajendragadkar Committee. The board is charged with the responsibility of recruitment of Scientists and to such other posts and services as may be specified by the President, ICAR from time to time through competitive examinations / direct recruitment by selection etc. as the principal mandate to make available the best human resources to man the various positions in ICAR in the country. The board's main mission is to make recruitment to the posts in the Agricultural Research Services (ARS) of ICAR and to such other posts and services specified by the President of ICAR, to rendering such other assistance to ICAR in personal matters including promotions and mandate in advising the Council on disciplinary matters relating to personal recruited/appointed by the Council or in consultation with the Board.

Age Criteria:

Candidates' age should be 47 years as on 28-02-2017.

Educational Qualification:

Candidates, those who are interested and applying for certain posts, should have a Doctoral degree in Agricultural Biotechnology, Doctoral degree in Agricultural Engineering with specialization in Land & Water Management Engineering, Doctoral degree in Agricultural Economics or Economics/ Statistics with specialization in Agricultural Economics, Doctoral degree in Agricultural Entomology with relevant experience in the relevant subject as Scientist/ Lecturer/ Extension specialist or in an equivalent position.

Mode of Selection:

Candidate will be selected based on the result of their performance in interview.

Applicants should pay Rs. 500/- in the form of Crossed Demand Draft drawn in favor of Secretary, ASRB payable at New Delhi (India).

Please note that the candidates belonging to the SC/ ST/ Women/ Physically Handicapped (PH) categories have been exempted from paying the application fee.
